Our Concrete Construction Process

We follow a structured, proven process to ensure every concrete driveway is strong, level, and finished to a high standard.

One

Excavation & Site Preparation

The project begins with excavation to achieve a suitable subgrade level. A digger is typically used to remove soil and old materials. Where access is restricted and machinery cannot reach the site, excavation is completed manually using jackhammers and hand tools. This allows us to work effectively on properties with tight access or limited space. Correct preparation at this stage is essential to prevent cracking and movement in the future.

Two

Basecourse & Boxing

Once excavation is complete, the area is backfilled with basecourse material and compacted where required to form a stable foundation. All edges are then boxed using timber and pegs to create the exact shape and size required for the driveway. This boxing ensures clean lines and accurate dimensions.

Three

Steel Reinforcement

Steel reinforcing mesh is installed as standard on all our concrete work. Reinforcement strengthens the slab and helps reduce cracking over time. This step is crucial in delivering a driveway that can withstand regular vehicle loads.

Four

Pouring, Placing & Finishing

Concrete pouring may occur a few days after site preparation, depending on concrete availability, scheduling and weather conditions.

All our concrete is:

  • 100mm (4 inches) thick
  • Installed with expansion joints/cuts as standard

We offer several finish options:

  • Plain grey concrete with a non-slip finish
  • Coloured concrete with a non-slip finish
  • Exposed aggregate with a subtle colour addition

Coloured concrete and exposed aggregate surfaces are acid washed and finished with one coat of sealer for protection and enhanced appearance.

Five

Unboxing & Site Clean-Up

Once the concrete has set, the boxing is removed and the site is tidied, leaving your new driveway clean and ready for curing.

Curing & Usage Timeframes

Concrete requires proper curing time to reach full strength.

  • Generally walkable within 48 hours (depending on season and weather conditions)
  • Driveable within 8 to 10 days (depending on season and weather conditions)

We provide clear aftercare advice to ensure your new driveway cures correctly and performs well long-term.

Concrete Finish Options

We understand that appearance matters just as much as performance. That’s why we offer multiple finishing styles to suit your property:
